LIVED MIDDLE-CLASS CULTURE SINCE 1963

KLOCKE Group history

1963

The roots of the KLOCKE Group date back to 1963. What began as a small packaging company has, over the decades, grown into an internationally operating group focused on pharmaceutical contract manufacturing (CDMO). From the very beginning, the company has been guided by a commitment to quality, reliability, and long-term partnerships with its customers.

1977

A major step in the company’s development came in 1977 with the groundbreaking of the Weingarten site — now the headquarters of KLOCKE Holding GmbH and home to KLOCKE Verpackungs-Service GmbH. Over the past 50 years, this location has evolved into one of Europe’s leading centers of excellence for blister packaging.

1990

In the years that followed, the CDMO business was systematically developed further. In 1990, the establishment of the sales company KLOCKE France EURL in Strasbourg marked the Group’s entry into the French market — especially to serve leading French cosmetics and pharmaceutical companies.

1992

In 1992, KLOCKE Pharma-Service GmbH was founded in Appenweier, representing another key milestone in shaping the Group’s current structure. This site would go on to become one of Europe’s leading manufacturers of pharmaceutical sachets and a globally active contract manufacturer for pharmaceuticals.

1993

In 1993, the Group acquired the long-established vaccine production site in Dessau-Tornau. In the years that followed, it evolved into IDT Biologika GmbH — one of Europe’s leading CDMOs for vaccines and biologics. At the same time, TEW Technik Energie Wasserservice GmbH, the site utility operator, was also integrated. It continues to supply the Biopharma Park in Dessau-Roßlau to this day.

1994

The Group continued its expansion: In 1994, the acquisition of Pharmapack Stade GmbH further strengthened the service portfolio in pharmaceutical packaging.

1998

In 1998, Hartmut KLOCKE established the U.S.-based partner company KLOCKE of America Inc., ensuring greater proximity to customers and flexibility in the North American market.

2003

The first expansion of production space at the Weingarten site took place in 2003.

2007

A major milestone was reached in 2007 with the founding of KLOCKE Holding GmbH, marking the formal establishment of today’s KLOCKE Group.

2014

In 2014, founder Hartmut Klocke handed over the family business to his sons, Carsten and Stefan Klocke, marking the transition to the third generation.

2019

In 2019, IDT Biologika GmbH sold its animal health division to Ceva Santé Animale, allowing the company to fully focus on the development and production of vaccines and biologics for human medicine.

2021

The Group continued to grow and invest: In 2021, KLOCKE Pharma-Service GmbH commissioned a new production wing, adding over 2,000 m² of space and increasing the total production area to more than 4,500 m².

2023

In 2023, KLOCKE Verpackungs-Service GmbH opened a state-of-the-art logistics center at the Weingarten site, offering more than 8,000 pallet storage spaces.

2024

A strategic turning point was reached in 2024: KLOCKE Holding Group sold majority control of IDT Biologika GmbH to the South Korean biopharmaceutical company SK Bioscience Ltd. as part of a strategic partnership. However, the KLOCKE Group retained a 40% stake, remaining the second-largest shareholder.

2025

Since 2025, the KLOCKE Group has focused consistently on its core competencies in solid dosage forms. With its subsidiaries KLOCKE Verpackungs-Service GmbH and KLOCKE Pharma-Service GmbH, the Group now offers customized CDMO services for the pharmaceutical industry at its sites in Weingarten and Appenweier — with a continued commitment to being a reliable partner at the highest level of quality.
